• Big contrast between the adults and the children : Children are playful and imaginative whereas the adults are alot more uptight and serious and are very dismissive about the children having fun. For example Brother Joshua doesn't like it when will is going out all the time and thinks he should be following his religion more strictly. There is a contrast between the way Lee Carter is brought up and the way Will Proudfood is brought up. Will has very strict religious guidelines to follow by, which as shown by the film doesn't work effectively in bringing up a child compared to Lee Carter who has no one looking after him and this has caused him to misbehave and run wild. The film shows what children need is a contrast between the two.
  
• Both Lee Carter and Will Proudford have problems (Lee Carters absent parents and Will's religion) and making the film together allows them to have fun and be children, the film shows that having a playful and fun childhood is a positive thing in contrast to Mia's childhood in Fish Tank which is alot more negative - school drop out, not many friends, getting into fights etc .
• The children in this film also look up to the older French kids and treat them like royalty. For example they treat 'Wolf' like a master and follow him around fascinated by him. But in the eyes of the other French kids (of the same age) hes very uncool and made fun of. For example in the scene where the 'Wolf' leaves and everyone is giving him presents and then he walks onto the bus and start to get called names by the other students
  
• Will book shows how a young child's imagination can be expressed in lots of color and beauty
• Wills mum can relate to him in the fact that when she was young she brought a record player with her favorite song and then her parents got rid of it and told that she couldn't listen to her music. She is now doing the same thing to Will in restricting his fun, and only allowing him to go out with Lee because he told her that he was serious injured and wanted to help
